ONIONS MUSHROOMS SQUASH OH MY-PEA SOUP ANY ONE

What do you love now, that you hated when you were younger?

When we are young we see foods differently; same for the smell, like pea soup. As a kid, when my mother left the kitchen, I would trade my bowl of pea soup, for my younger siblings two slices of bread. So, she had two helpings of soup and I had four slices of bread for supper. It was the smell. I could not get past the smell of the pea soup; it gave the aroma of vomit to me. There was no way I was going to even taste it.

As for onions…yuck! As a kid, raw onions burned my tongue my mouth and my eyes!! Cooked onions were slimy and sluggish like eating slugs; this sluggishness texture, was the same for eating cooked mushrooms!! Yuck.

Although, uncooked mushrooms, tasted and smelled like dirt! The earth. Mold! No way would I eat these, rather wait for my mom to join my dad, I would scrape them off my plate onto one of the younger siblings plate. Shhh don’t tell your mother.

SQUASH? What the crap was that? I can’t even describe what seemed like eating horrible tasting baby pablum. But of course, more than likely, the same sibling; liking the pea soup took the Squash. This sibling ate anything, so, she was great to have around at meal time; only when something yucky was on my plate, otherwise…no; she was always eating her food, and asking for my food, their food, your food.

But as I grew, my tastebuds were challenged by people who knew how to cook, talking me into trying these same foods by way of association.

Onions- do you like pepper, hot mustard and or cooked celery in soup? Yes. So instead of using pepper on your hamburger, try a little raw or cooked onions. I must say I prefer raw onions on my burger. And I put onions in my meat while cooking it. I love onions cooked or raw now.

Squash. I love squash. Someone said to me, try a little butter and brown sugar. 😃 my eyes have seen the glory. Someone else said try a little salt and pepper with a dash of butter. My my my…I can eat a whole small squash by my self, either way.

As for those Mushrooms. I can and do eat them raw in salads or cook them with butter. As for the slimy slug texture…I love it. I love eating mushrooms in soup or cooking then in with certain meats.

Now, this Pea Soup. I did eat peas as a kid but they were green. Pea soup is yellow and has that smell. Then one day when I was older, someone asked me to stay for lunch. Sure, why not; we were playing cards, so, stay play and eat. But she came back with a toasted cheese sandwich and a bowl of PEA SOUP! 😱

What was I to do? Eat the sandwich and be quiet. Which brought on the questions; “is the soup too hot? what’s the matter, don’t you like soup?” “No, no I like soup, just this…I don’t like pea soup.” She asked if I like peas, yes, then what’s the problem. The smell. The smell? It smells like peas!! No it smells like Puke. Taste it. What? Taste it. Oh bother… so I did, and it tasted like peas. lol. The smell was peas not vomit. I soon learn to love this soup.

Pea soup anyone?

All those things I hated when I was young, I love now by way of identifying it with something that I did like. All the fresh ideas on how to cook or eat certain foods sure does help with taste.

GOD created earth along with many planets. He made sure to place the planets far away from each other. He made sure not create havoc between the heavens and our stars. He created man making sure to separate humans from alien forms. But this would not do for man.
